SSU Empowers Research Community through Virtual Research Ethics Training

CATBALOGAN CITY –  In a proactive move towards fostering ethical research practices, Samar State University (SSU) conducted a two-day virtual Research Ethics Training aimed at equipping participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to ensure the integrity of research endeavors today, January 4 (24).

The training features a comprehensive curriculum with lectures, workshop sessions, and plenary discussions through the expertise of distinguished Resource Speakers, Dr. Angelica D. Francisco, Chairperson of the Department of Physiology, Centro Escolar University- School of Medicine, and Prof. Maria Cecilia C.G. Conaco, a Professor Emeritus from the Department of Psychology, UP-Diliman.

Aimed to develop skills in identifying ethically sound research and critiquing good research among the SSU research advisers, researchers, and research ethics committee members, topics on (1) Ethics and Research, (2)  Incident of Unethical Research, (3) Favorable Benefits and Risks Ratio, (4) Preparing an Adequate and Appropriate Informed Consent Process and Form, (5) Selecting Research Participants Fairly, (6) Protecting the Vulnerable in Research, (7) Current Issues in Research, (8) Qualified Researcher, (9) International and National Guidelines, (10) Institutional Controls: Research Ethics Committee, and (11) Navigating the Ethics Review Process were covered.

“The two-day virtual Basic Research Ethics Training exemplifies the Institution’s commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in research. That by empowering researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complex landscape of research ethics, SSU is not only investing in the professional development of its research community but also contributing to the advancement of ethical research practices on a broader scale,” stated Dr. Rheajane A. Rosales, Chairperson for Institutional Human Research Ethics, in an interview.

The training concluded on January 5 (24), with the participant-attendees equipped with knowledge on identifying and applying general research ethical principles in research.
