According to UniRank University Ranking, SSU ranked first in Eastern Visayas and ranked 31st in the Philippines. In another ranking system (Webometric), SSU is on the 41st place, second to Visayas State University (ranking 29th) in Region 8.

Samar State University ranked 2nd of the Top Nursing Schools in Eastern Visayas based on the last 10 NLE passing rates (2013-2018) showing the relatively increasing trend in the passing percentages.

The horizons are getting wider for the students who are given attainable opportunities to go abroad and explore the life outside the country. The Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) of the College of Education was awarded the CERTIFICATE OF PROGRAM COMPLIANCE (COPC) No. 14, Series of 2019 by the Commission on Higher Education RO VIII.

Samar State University (SSU) was given recognition by the Government Quality Management Committee (GQMC) for successfully establishing a Quality Management System Certified to ISO 9001:2015 in compliance with Executive Order No. 605, s. 2007. The University President received the said award during the 7th GQMC Recognition Ceremony and Public Sector Quality and Productivity Improvement Forum on October 24, 2019.

SSU obtained an EXCELLENT rating rendered by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP, Inc. to the five programs assessed last April 29-May 3, 2019 for the Level IV (Phase 1) Survey Visit.

The BS Fisheries Program of Samar State University-Mercedes Campus obtained a High Rating on the Joint CHED PRC Monitoring of HEIS offering the BS Fisheries Program in Region VIII conducted on June 25-26, 2019.

COPC has been issued to Samar State University – Paranas Campus for the Bachelor of Elementary Education program effective Academic Year 2019-2020.

COPC has been granted to Samar State University – College of Nursing and Health Sciences for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
