Research Ethics Review Board (ERB)

Objectives

The SSU IERC primary purpose is to review research to ensure protection of human participants as well as the use of animals as subjects in any research undertaking.

Specifically, the committee shall be guided with the following specific objectives;

  1. Form subcommittees who will review researches with ethical aspects.
  2. Review all faculty/student researches involving human participants.
  3. Coordinate review of research procedures with authorities when the research involves animals, plants, microorganisms, and flora should be submitted and coordinated with respective agencies.
  4. Recommend revisions to research proposals based on ethical standards.
  5. Approve the research proposals based on ethical standards.
  6. Monitor the approved proposals to ensure compliance to the procedures approved for compliance to this manual.
  7. Ensure the safekeeping of pertinent records for confidentiality.
  8. Formulate guidelines for the access to any research information to ensure compliance to the confidentiality agreement.
  9. Establish linkages to different agencies.
