SSU-GS faculty needs specialization workshop, says GS Dean

CALBAYOG CITY – The Graduate School (GS) Dean Dr. Esteban A. Malindog Jr. of Samar State University (SSU)  deemed the importance of re-aligning and strengthening the specialization of their faculty members. With that, the Graduate School conducted a Workshop on Strengthening Graduate School Faculty Member’s Field of Specialization on August 9-10 (21) at Calbayog City, Samar.

Attended by the Vice President for Research and Extension Services Dr. Ronald L. Orale, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, Executive Director for Research Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, Executive Director for Extension Dr. Jesus T. Racuyal, the Directors of the six (6) research centers, and the Graduate School staff, the workshop primarily aims to answer one of the challenges of the GS faculty – research engagement and publication by establishing niche areas of faculty.

“These niche areas are where the faculty could conduct Research and Extension (R&E) activities with the help of his/her student research/thesis/dissertation advisers,” Dr. Malindog informed.

Specialization profile of faculty, University’s R&E thrust were presented and tackled during the two-day event. Workshops on the Importance of Specialization in the Graduate School and Proposal Formulation were also conducted.

The event led the GS to create a mechanism and program that encourages faculty members to be involved in research and realign the curricular offerings of the Graduate School by incorporating research and extension in the curriculum.
