SSU faculty-researchers attend 5-day workshop for ‘greater edge’

SSU, Catbalogan – “If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading or do things worth writing,” said Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, University President, quoting Benjamin Franklin as she denotes the great advantage of writing to the lives of the teachers as researchers and educators.

During the first day of the 5-day workshop on Publishable Paper Development for ISI, ACI, and CHED Journals on October 22 at the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) Building, Cardoso said that the workshop will bring them to a greater edge as educators in a university like Samar State University (SSU).

“SSU has provisions for incentives for those who will get their paper published or presented. On top of that, you will find yourself easily get a higher faculty rank if you have several publications – of course, a higher academic rank means higher salary. Yes, expect more perks as you publish more,” stated Cardoso, urging the participants to make the most out of the five-day workshop.

The workshop started with discussions on the tips in preparing papers for publication and experiences on publishing papers in ISI journals delivered by Prof. Dakila P. Yee, Chair of the Division of Social Sciences in the University of the Philippines (UP)-Tacloban College.

“I encourage you to write, every day,” he said, along with the other tips he shared.

Topics such as The Challenging Road Towards Research Article Publishing and Searching Credible Research Journals by Major Disciplines were discussed by Prof. Ferdinand T. Abocejo, faculty of the College of Graduate Studies in Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU).

The faculty-researchers are expected to present their developed publishable papers on the last day of the workshop.
