METRO MANILA—After an intense competition among shortlisted entries, Samar State University (SSU) projects “Mud Crab Attracting System with Application of Generated Frequency (MASAG)” and “An Intelligent Fish Pond Water Quality Monitoring System with Alarm Functionality for Enhanced Aquaculture Practices” were declared Champion and 1st Runner Up, respectively, in the concluded Alfredo M. Yao (AMY) Intellectual Property (IP) Awards 2023 yesterday, October 2 (23), at the PCCI Office, Taguig City, Manila.
Created by M. Salazar, S. Babayson, M. Cris, W. Alcos, N. Floretes, F. Candido, A. Gadin, and R. Fabriag, MASAG focuses on utilizing the potential of sound frequency in attracting systems to improve mud crab yield in aquaculture settings as well as to revolutionize crab harvesting. Its precision and advanced capabilities set a new standard for mud crab attraction and capture methods compared with its predecessor versions.
On the other hand, the technology by M. Cris, L. Fajardo, H. Tan, S. Babayson, M. Gacuma, N. Floretes titled “An Intelligent Fish Pond Water Quality Monitoring System with Alarm Functionality for Enhanced Aquaculture Practices” features detection of water abnormalities in the fish pond using an intelligent system for decision-making on giving alarms, composition of various sensors for data analysis, demonstration of the actual values of the parameters to the user/s, and provision of a solution thru an automated means of changing the water.
SSU has been winning as a Finalist in the AMY IP Awards (collegiate category) since 2016.
