SSU, Emergency Response Agencies equip DRRM Members with emergency response skills

CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Catbalogan City Fire Station and the Red Cross Youth – SSU Council recently conducted a three-day Basic Emergency Response Training for members of its Disaster Risk Reduction Council on February 15-17 (23) which simultaneously took place at the SSU Gymnasium, SSU-Convention Center, and SSU-Admin Roof Deck.

The event attended by 145 council members was aimed at enhancing the emergency response capabilities of SSU staff and faculty members. They underwent modules on various aspects of emergency response, including Introduction to Rescue Operations, Victim and Handling Management, Basic Ropemanship, Basic Rapelling, and Basic Firefighting.

Facilitating the Medical First Response Orientation were FO2 Andrew R Torres – EMS, FO2 Jhunas Cabañas – EMT, and FO1 Roman John Unay – EMS. The Fire Prevention and Suppression Orientation was discussed by FO2 Roderick Abarratigue Team Leader / Fire Truck Operator / SRF, FO2 Jorie Dacuyasan – SRF, and FO1 Jomar Raytos – SRF. And the Basic Rescue Operation was headed by the BFP Catbalogan Fire Station Acting Fire Marshall S/Insp Jimmy C. Pasague, and conducted by FO3 Geeram Omilig Team Leader/SRF, FO2 Luigi Jan Casurao – SRF, FO2 Brando Nicole Garduce – SRF, and FO1 Victor Michael Gutierrez – SRF.

The training proved significant as the SSU Disaster Risk Reduction Council members were provided with valuable knowledge and skills that will enable them to respond effectively to emergencies and safeguard the welfare of the whole SSU community.
