President Cardoso brings SMARTER SSU-BASEY Community-Based Programs to international grounds



BAGUIO CITY─ Samar State University (SSU) President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, joined the CHED International Grants Conference and Networking Session (ICoNS) on May 10-12 (22) held in Baguio City.

ICoNs was a three-day hybrid conference that highlighted the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED’s) internationalization efforts with the end goal of reforming the education system in the Philippines as it adapts to the changing needs of the regional and global environment.

As her re-entry plan after joining CHED and the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) for a Community College Training in Canada on November 2019, President Cardoso showcased the project titled Establishment of a Sustainable, Mission-Directed, Adaptive, Resilient, Talent-Honer, Eco-Friendly, Research-Driven (SMARTER) SSU-Basey Community-Based Programs. The project aims to offer diploma programs with national accreditation and certification including: Diploma in Banig Fashion and Apparel Technology, Diploma in Banig Weaving Technology, Diploma in Root Crops Processing Technology, Diploma in Food Technology with Specialization in Flour Production, Diploma in Food Packaging Technology, Diploma in Agriculture with Specialization in Root Crop and Fruit Production, Diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, and Diploma in Tourism with Specialization in Tour Guiding.

“Through the full establishment of SMARTER SSU Basey Community-Based Programs, students will acquire skills that will make them entrepreneurs, food technologists, technopreneurs and innovators. This project will significantly empower the people of Basey, Samar and its neighboring municipalities,” stated Dr. Cardoso during her presentation.

With the establishment of this project, Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No Poverty), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth), 9 (Innovation & Industry), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) are expected to be satisfied as SSU continues to transform the society by innovating, building, and serving.
