SSU concludes 6-month WIPO EIE Mentorship Program with IPOPHIL

Engr. Nikko Ardel P. Floretes, Engr. Adrian U. Gadin and Dr. Vivian L. Moya  of SSU-Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office (IPTBDO) concluded the new round of the 6-month WIPO Enabling Innovation Environment (EIE) Remote Mentorship Program on March 4, 2022.

The team was also joined by researchers, Engr. Walvies Alcos,  Engr. Francis Jerric Candido and Dr. Ronald L. Orale, VP for Research and Extension.

The technology CAWAT or CATV Anti-theft Assessing Tool, a wireless tool that can generate signal to Cable Television (CATV) distribution lines to detect or check illegal cable connections was selected as the technology served as the case in the mentoring program.

The program, launched on  September 2021, aimed to develop and institutionalize the right conditions, structures and people to facilitate transfer and transformation of technologies into products, services and companies and thereby enhance economic growth of the country.

Michael J. Martin, a certified Licensing Professional of TechTransfer Associates based in Virginia, USA served as the mentor. He has held positions at E.I. DuPont, PPG Industries, Ciba-Geigy, Michigan State University and Virginia Tech Properties , Inc. where he was responsible for the management and commercialization of IP; formulation and execution of new business entry plans; financial and market evaluations of acquisitions; national sales and market management; and growth of  community economic development strategies.

During the 6-month mentorship, the team gained and applied learnings  on Evaluation of Inventions, Pre-Negotiation Valuation Analysis, Financial Valuation Techniques,  Marketing of University Inventions and Licensing Strategies and Negotiation.

Samar State University is hopeful that the technology transfer and/or  commercialization of technologies will increase and consequently contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
