SSU holds groundbreaking for CoEd’s new building

CATBALOGAN CITY– Samar State University held its groundbreaking ceremony on February 23 (21) for another building provisioned for the College of Education.

The Php8.59 million worth Phase 1 construction project is intended for additional classrooms, laboratories, and other academic offices of said college. This was made possible through the efforts of the 2nd District Congresswoman, Hon. Sharee Ann T. Tan and the Office of the Provincial Governor, Hon. Michael Reynolds T. Tan.

The ceremony was graced by the Provincial Governor, Hon. Michael Reynolds T. Tan; Provincial Engineer, Nestor Mate; University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso; Vice-Presidents: Dr. Felisa E. Gomba and Dr. Lydia A. Gonzales; CoEd Dean, Dr. Gina U. Españo, and some SSU staff and CoEd faculty.

Dr. Cardoso, in her message, highlighted her gratitude to the Provincial Government of Samar through its implementing agency, the Department of Public Works and Highways for supporting SSU of the new project. “Alone we can do so little; Together, we can do so much,” she quoted.

In response, Gov. Michael Reynolds Tan conveyed his support saying “I commit to help, support, and partner with SSU as our relationship gets stronger.”

The kickoff event concluded with a message from the CoEd Dean, Dr. Españo, who also expressed her appreciation toward this milestone for her college. “I am very much thankful for this privilege and for this giant step closer to a progressive college that can cater more to the needs of students and can render more academic services to Samarnons,” she remarked.

Phase 1 of the project to be built by Steel Power Corporation is expected to complete by May 31, 2021.
