SSU promotes gender-inclusive disaster preparedness among Catbalogan communities

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Samar State University’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) conducted an extension activity called, “Seminar on Gender Sensitivity and Gender in Disaster” among 120 residents of Bliss Community, Brgy. Canlapwas, Catbalogan City, Samar on April 19, 2024. The activity was launched to promote gender responsive disaster preparedness among the marginalized communities of Catbalogan City.

SAGWAN Office provided lectures and workshops on “Gender and Disaster” and “Gender and Sensitivity,” in collaboration with resource speakers from the Philippine Red Cross and Catbalogan City LGU, Ms. Grace D. Nube and Mr. Ronaldo N. Espino respectively.

The seminar saw equal participation from both men and women sector of the target community. This activity is in line with SAGWAN’s extension programs on SAGWAN Puso at Serbisyo and SAGWAN Kalikasan at Proteksyon sa Kalamidad
