Bake-Off Contest Marks Launching and Promotion of Sweet Potato Flour Technology

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — In a notable display of culinary innovation and sustainable agricultural practices, SSU’s Samar Island Center for Adult Education and Technology Learning (SICAETLe) through its DOST-PCAARRD-funded project called, “Science and Technology Community-Based Farm (STCBF) on Sweet Potato Flour Production,” organized a two-day event to promote sweet potato flour as alternative to wheat flour through a Bake-Off Contest held on March 21- 22 (24) at Samar State University. 

Highlighted in the event were discussions on the importance of sweet potato flour, its benefits and key features, and an exhibit of products showcasing the potentials of sweet potato flour in culinary applications. It also featured the Bake-Off Contest and a video presentation documenting the participants’ journey in developing their sweet potato flour-based creations.

Emerging as winners in the contest include Team 2L (Champion), 2C Explorers (2nd Place), and GNHS-ALS (3rd place) receiving a cash prize of 7,000.00Php, 1,500.00Php, and 1,000.00Php respectively. Other participating teams received Php500.00 each as consolation prize.

The event proves to be an important occasion to promote healthier dietary options and supporting the livelihood of local communities with sweet potato flour taking the center stage in innovation along food technology.
