By: SSU-CESTI

CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) through the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension Services and the Center for Engineering, Science and Technology Innovation (CESTI) recently acquired food processing equipment to promote research and development through innovation and reformulation of quality food products.

The equipment will be housed at the SSU – Food Innovation Center (FIC) located in SSU – Mercedes Campus, a facility that serves as a hub and a support service laboratory for the value-addition of our local food products and an avenue for instruction for students, industries, and other agencies in Samar province.

Currently, the facility houses 4 fabricated equipment: water retort, vacuum fryer, spray dryer, and freeze dryer.

With the aim to provide technical trainings to upskill the food product development capabilities of our faculty and students, especially those who are into the food technology program, CESTI envisions the products that will be produced to be competitive in the global market and provide sustainable livelihood and stable income to the local communities and help alleviate poverty incidence in the province.

Future activities along this area such as forging linkages with other food processors, local MSMEs, government, and private agencies in the region are already in schedule.
