SSU’s Chua on his international win: I did it again

CATBALOGAN CITY – “I did it again!” stated Samar State University – College of Engineering (SSU-CoEng’g) homegrown student-researcher, Mr. Allean Vince Chua, as he announced his victory during the 2022 International Sustainable Development Goals Bootcamp on September 16 (22).

Prior to this recent win, Mr. Chua, was hailed the Grand Winner of the Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property (AMY-IP) Award for the Collegiate Category on November 2021.

Chua together with his teammates, Erika Martin from Bulacan State University (BSU), Jemaica Andrade from Western Mindanao State University (MSU), Angelica Luto of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU), and their Adviser Ms. Violeta Imperial, bagged the First Place Commissioner’s Award and Best Poster Award with their project titled “CoWoMAN: Coastal Women’s Mangrove Alliance for Nature”.

The project aims to strengthen community participation in coastal conservation and immediate action to counteract climate change and its effects, as well as empowering all women and girls through access to different livelihood opportunities.

In a post, Mr. Chua expressed his gratitude to God, his family, the International Office of SSU led by Director Elmer Irene and Mr. Pedro Cabrales, Executive Director for Research Dr. Sherrie Ann Labid, College of Engineering Dean Engr. Meddy Mangaring, and SSU President Dr. Marilyn Cardoso as he took pride in representing the University.

“Representing Samar State University in a competition internationally is a great honor,” he stated.
