CATBALOGAN CITY – In the hope of generating new knowledge and developing innovative technologies and practices to address some of the pressing problems of the marginalized sectors in the province, the Samar Island Center for Adult Education and Technology Learning (SI-CAETLe) held its 1st In-House Technical Review for 2022 Research Projects and Extension Program Proposals on March 2 and 11 (2022) at Samar State University (SSU) Research and Innovation Center’s Audio-Visual Room.
Faculty-researchers from various colleges and campuses of SSU presented on the first day their institutionally-funded proposals. During his welcome message, Dr. Ronald L. Orale, Vice President for Research and Extension Services, emphasized the need to conduct in-house review to give the faculty-researchers important insights on how to go about in their research work and align their studies to the strategic goals and priority programs of the university as reflected on the cascaded targets presented by the Center Director, Dr. Marife M. Lacaba. Furthermore, the University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, noted in her message that the conduct of said activity is a ‘way forward’ for the center and the participants.
In the same event, Provincial Director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Engr. Meilou C. Macabare, who also served as external evaluator, expressed her appreciation to the researchers for coming up with studies that seek to capacitate the marginalized sectors especially on the aspect of skills training and entrepreneurship, and further affirmed her agency’s commitment to support such undertakings by offering possible funding for future trainings and the use of DTI’s shared service facilities.
The second day was allotted for the refinement of the research and extension proposals, incorporating the suggestions given by the evaluators. The participants were also oriented on the documents needed to be prepared as attachments to their packaged proposals.
Aside from Director Macabare, Dr. Ronald L. Orale, VPRES; Dr. Elmer A. Irene, Director for International Affairs; Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, Executive Director for Research; and Engr. Mirador Labrador, Executive Director for Extension, served as evaluators in the two-day event.
The center and the evaluators also recognized the best presenters and proposals based on the evaluation results:
