To continue making a mark in a fast-paced environment, Dr. Gina U. Españo embraced the state of female power in the corporate world – all can become leaders now, men and women. That’s how her impact started.
She has always been in the front line. She was born a leader and was created to become one, which is why she emerged from being the Director of the Audio-Visual Production Center, Director of the Auxiliary Services, the Dean of the College of Education and now the acting Vice President for Administration and Finance.
In her 38 years as a public servant, Dr. Españo already mastered the ingredients of effective leadership: teamwork, ownership, and modelling. She learned, through time, that the most important principle a leader should have is ‘leading by example’.
As a result, her dedication bore fruits of labour. She was hailed as the 1st Sulo Awardee of Samar State University, a recognition given to the Most Outstanding Employee of the University who embodies the mantra “We Innovate. We Build. We Serve.” On the following, she became the Best Academic Manager during the Sulo Awards 2020.
Despite the leader image that she has, Dr. Españo knows that when she gets home, she becomes the submissive wife to her 33-year husband and a nurturing mother to her two children.
To some, Dr. Españo is a leader yet to others, she is a friend, a wife, and a mother who walks the talk and lives by example.
