SSU fortifies patent and UM application, writeshop convened

Catbalogan City – Samar State University continues to strengthen the patent and utility model (UM) application through organizing a patent drafting writeshop for new faculty researchers held today, March 7 at the Convention Center.

The writeshop was spearheaded by the Technology Licensing and Innovation Services Office (TLISO) which invited five participants per college.

According to the TLISO Director, Dr. Vivian Moya, the writeshop is necessary to maintain, or even elevate, the repute of the university as the 2nd Place Patent Filer and Patent Searcher in the Philippines.

Topics such as Introduction to Intellectual Property System, Requirements of a Patentable Inventions, and Claim Drafting were discussed by Dr. Moya, Engr. Jan Floro Bautista, and Engr. Ryan Labutap respectively.

After the lectures, an actual claim drafting workshop followed and the different colleges presented their claims.

The writeshop will continue tomorrow, March 8, covering the topics Specs Drafting and Drafting Procedure.
