SSU celebrates Arts Month, Kabilin ‘19

Catbalogan City- February was declared National Arts Month by President Corazon Aquino through Proclamation No. 683, signed January 28, 1991 and Samar State University joins the nation in celebrating the Arts Month through an art exhibit formally opened last February 27 at the SSU Gymnasium façade tagged as ‘Kabilin 2019’.

‘Kabilin’ is a Bisayan term for ‘heritage’ which means any attribute or immaterial possession that is handed down from the past by generation. This year’s arts month theme aims to celebrate the Bisayan arts and heritage in the contemporary world.

Jhonil Sy Bajado, Head of the SSU Museum and Archive, spearheaded the event with the help of the students of Art Appreciation classes from the College of Education (COED).

“I believe through art appreciation, we will be able to understand and know our goals and our role in the society because our identity and our culture are the foundation of our existence,” said Joan Baclay, COED instructor.

Students and instructors from Samar College, Inc. also joined the opening program of the Kabilin 2019. The university is also expecting students and teachers from the municipality of Daram to witness the exhibit.

The art exhibit will continue until March 1.
