The City Government of Catbalogan is hosting this year’s United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) Executive Bureau on April 4-7, 2017. One of the activities is the conduct of Science and Technology Fair which is scheduled on the same dates to be held at the Samar State University – Main Campus. The event expected participants are researchers and exhibitors mostly from Region 8, and some parts of the country. This year’s event has theme “Kauswagan Kalibutan: Creating Connection for Sustainable Societies”.
The S&T fair focuses on four themes; (1) Climate Change Adaptation, (2) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, (3) Alternative Energy and S&T Innovations and (4) Robotics for the Environment. The three components of the fair include the (1) Booth Displays of S&T Innovations, (2) Poster Presentation/Competition, and (3) Oral Presentations.
Tentative list of R&D projects that will be on display are those that come from academic institutions (secondary and tertiary levels), Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (EVCIERD), and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Offices. To date, there are at least nine booth exhibitors, 40 R&D papers, 12 of which are for oral presentation. The event is expected to be attended by more than 1000 invited participants. Even though the event can be attended by walk-in participants, the event organizer encourages those interested to pre-register for logistical purposes.
The organizers are still accepting entries to the S&T fair. Those joining the conference as poster and paper presenters need to submit their abstracts (not more than 300 words with name of authors, contact email address and affiliation) to ramiluy@yahoo.com, enp.gerry.b.decadiz@gmail.com or ronald.orale@ssu.edu.ph not later than Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
