6 out of 9 SSU projects won RICE 2013, 3 qualifies NICE 2014

Six(6) of the nine(9) of SSU projects entries to the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) 2013 held in Robinson’s Place Tacloban City last August 19-21, 2013 was declared winners. The 3 projects winning first place in three categories will compete in 2014 at the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE 2014). During the NICE 2012, 1 SSU project represented Region 8 and was selected 2nd in the Sibil College Category and first place on two special awards.

The winners are the follwoing

Creative Research: (1/3)

First – Design and development of electric energy consumption and monitoring system (with PhP 20,000 cash award)

Sibol Award College Category

First – Development of CMOS-based and SMS-featured AC power outage monitoring system (with PhP 20,000)

Second – Automated mosquito attractor and killing system (with PhP 10,000)

Third- Log in/out monitoring system for classroom using biometric scanner (with PhP 5,000)

Utility Models

First – Standard process of fermenting rock oyster (sisi) (with PhP 20,000.00)

Second – Process of making Biodegradable plastic (with PhP 10,000.00)

All first price winners qualifies NICE 2014 to be held sometime July 2014. Samar State University dominated the contest with close to half of the entry coming from SSU.
