“End VAW Now! It’s Our Duty! Gains and Ways Forward,” the theme of this year’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) as adhered by the Gender and Development (GAD) director and focal persons last November 25-December 12, 2015 at Samar State University- Main Campus.
The event started with a parade participated by the students and faculty members wearing the Anti- Violence Against Women and Children (AVAWC) t-shirts and with their orange emblems.
Hon. Stephanie Uy-Tan, Catbalogan City Mayor, tackled about the great role of the community in eradicating the dilemmas which were being encountered by the women and children of today’s generation.
A seminar on Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (AVAWC) was held at the University’s Audio Visual Center (AVC).
Atty. Kathrina Castillo, keynote speaker, conferred about battered woman syndrome and protection order which focused on the idea and consequences upon violating the rights of every woman and child.
The AVAWC advocacy of Dr. Marlyn G. Lanzarrote, Director of Gender and Development, was the main highlight of the event.
“I Pledge to End VAW Now,” as the SSU pledged another year preventing violence against women and children.
