‘It is about us, students’ – Piscos

Editor-In-Chief Ma. Mikee A. Piscos proclaimed on her welcome talk that ‘It is about us, students’ from which The Tradesman presented the 3rd SSU Press Conference lately on December 11, 2015 at the University’s Audio Visual Center.

 

The Tradesman’s EIC explained that it is really necessary that students must be acquainted enough with the different socio-political discussions for them to exchange ideas and opinions regarding the different situations the country faces.

“No amount of cunning and effort could make the society do better without the support of the students,” Piscos said. “Our society depends on every one of us, its fate lies in our hands,” she added.

The said Press Conference opened with the theme “SSU Journalists: Upholding Social Consciousness and Transformation towards Better Campus Journalism.”

 

According to Piscos, the theme suggested that it is an auspicious time to renew things, and have a discussion on the different topics on journalism which would be of great help to all of us, SSU students.

 

Subsequently, the event covered variety of competitions which were joined by the students from the different colleges.

 

Furthermore, the event’s speakers for the different journalistic categories to be competed were Dr. Redentor S. Palencia for News Writing, Prof. Elma C. Sultan for Feature Writing, Mr. Hector Bailey G. Calumpiano for Editorial Writing, Prof. Nathalie Ann C. Alaga for Sports Writing and Photojournalism, Mr. Emil Ramirez Fernando for Copy Reading and Headline Writing, Prof. Joan J. Baclay for Script Writing and Radio Broadcasting, and Prof. Mary Ann Y. Abalos for Editorial Cartooning.
