A thesis project of fifth year BS Computer Engineering garnered the highest rating in the recently concluded 2016 Student Research Project Competition and was awarded as the Most Outstanding Student Research Project for 2016. The project is a stand-alone device capable of giving group of people (i.e. the patient, relatives, the nurse, etc) reminders on medication schedule via SMS, audio and visual signals. The project developed by Ben Jason Babatio, Annaliza Bachicha, Marydel Egalam and Ricardo Labrague can be powered also by a battery, solar energy.
The competition was participated by 33 group of students in three major categories namely; (1)Information and Communications Technology/Engineering, (2)Education/Social Science/Health and the (3)Science and Technology categories. Aside from the Outstanding Project, there were also three Best Papers from each of the categories and the Best Posters Award.

Best in Education/Social Science/Health Research: The Skills of Writing and its Relation to Academic Prowess by Balondo, Nabual, Vetorico and Montero (BSEd-Eng)
Best in Science and Technology Research & 2nd Best Research Poster: Relative Abundance and Distribution of Imbao (Anadontia edentula) in the Mangrove Forest of Dapdap, Tarangnan Samar by Carcellar, Mabag, Ebias and Penaranda (BSEd-Bio)
Best Research Poster: Alternative River Control Project for Catbalogan City’s Antiao River by Baylon, Cabanacan, Dalemit, Gulane, Malinao and Raytos (BSCE 4).
The winners were selected by two DOST experts Ms Mae Anne Reyes the Supervising Science Research Specialist and Engr. Ramil Uy a Sr. Science Research Specialist.
