Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso elected as the new SSU President

Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso is the new Samar State University President. She was elected with a unanimous vote from the Board of Regents of Samar State University last March 10, 2016 at CHED Central Office in Diliman Quezon City. She will serve as the president from March 11 2016 to March 10 2020.

As an employee in the academe, she has exhibited exemplary performance in instruction, conducted/presented/published researches and implemented extension projects. She is also a genuine leader more than a boss, was able to win the support of more than majority of her colleagues through her balanced managerial execution of duties.

The new president is formerly the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Samar State University. Her other work assignments includes the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, the Director for Program Accreditation and she also handles subjects in research, statistics, management and professional education courses in the university. She also is a member of the Regional Quality Assessment Team of the Commision on Higher Education, Regional Office No.8, a mentor to the MPM-LGD for MPDCs in the Yolanda Corridor of DAP-GSPDM and has served as Team Leader and member to various AACCUP accreditation works in various parts of the Philippines.

The new president rose from the ranks and held various posts. She started as a Secondary School Teacher, then become a College Statistician, Head of Educational Management Information System, Director/Head of Research Institute, Extension and Local Government, Dean of the College of Education and the Dean of Graduate School of the university. She also was elected as Faculty Regent/Trustee for three separate terms.

She graduated her Bachelor Degree in Statistics at the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 1982, her Masters Degree in Technician Education –Physics at the Marikina Institute of Technology in 1986 and her PhD Degree in Educational Management at the Samar State Polytechnic College in 1996.

President Cardoso is married to Dr. Alex A. Cardoso and has four children namely; Alexandra, Karen, Stacey and Justen Alex.
