SSU-CFARRD co-hosts Reg’l Basic Research Caravan, features Prof. Diocton’s research

CATBALOGAN CITY – on December 1 (22) at the SSU Convention Center, Samar State University-Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Research Resource Development (SSU-CFARRD) together with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office 8 conducted the Regional Basic Research Caravan (RBRC) and featured the research of Prof. Renato Diocton.

With the theme “Enhancing S&T Culture in the Region”, the event highlighted the scientific breakthroughs made possible by NRCP-funded researches and achievements in regional research and development which include this year’s featured research by Prof. Diocton titled “Stock Assessment of Traditionally Fished Aquatic Species in Non-Wadeable Rivers and Adjacent Riparian Areas in the Samar Island Natural Park”.

Gracing the event were the NRCP Executive Director Dr. Marieta B. Sumagaysay, DOST-8 Representative Mr. Emmanuel Lagdammen, and NRCP Visayas Cluster Chair Dr. Nathaniel C. Anasco.

 “Today’s event marks another milestone. I fervently pray that this activity will again open doors of opportunities to our faculty and stakeholders. NRCP is one of our very strong enablers. For this and on behalf of SSU, we commit to do more and be more for a better Samar, better Eastern Visayas, and a better Philippines. May this strong partnership of NRCP and SSU be a testimony of harmonious engagement in establishing a robust science and technology culture in this part of the country,” SSU President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso stated in her Welcome Message.

Ending the event were responses from selected partners who share the same goal with the organizing agencies including Paranas Municipal Agriculturist – Engr. Myla O. Corales, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) – Samar Province Representative Mr. Cecillo N. Talagon, and Samar Provincial Agriculture Representative Mr. Alex De Luna.
