From Ideas to Market: SSU Extension Services Office equips innovators with tools for validation, design thinking

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University’s Extension Services Office, led by Executive Director for Extension Dr. Vivian L. Moya, is spearheading a capacity-building activity on Validation & Design Thinking for Startups and Faculty Participants today, June 30, 2025 at the Convention Center, SSU Main Campus, Catbalogan City, Samar.

Duly representing SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia was Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, Vice-President for Research and Extension Services, who thanked and encouraged the attendees to actively participate in the university’s continuous pursuit for innovation.

The activity is currently participated by SSU faculty members, students, and startup enthusiasts who seek to transform their “ideas to market” through the design thinking approach. Today’s sessions feature lectures and workshops on Ideation and Validation by the Director for Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center (SIGISDAC), Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan. In his session, he guided the participants through the ideation and validation stages that are critical for developing viable solutions for customers.

Moreover, Dr. Moya is currently discussing the topics on Design Thinking for Innovation and Orientation on Fairness Opinion Report (FOR) to equip the participants with tools and methods for innovation and allow them to assess the commercial potential and value of technologies, respectively.

Organized in partnership with the SSU TBI-LAMBAT, the capacity-building activity runs until this afternoon with the attendees’ participation in the various workshops along ideation, and design thinking and validation.
