CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—A month-long celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month has begun at SSU as the Samar State University’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) led a series of kick-off activities last March 4 & 5, 2025, at the SSU Main Campus, Catbalogan City.
In line with the national theme, the university honors this significant occasion under the banner, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
Following a soft-opening activity last March 4 (25) at the SSU Convention Center, SAGWAN led a vibrant parade of purple around Catbalogan City yesterday, March 5. SAGWAN also launched the Salamat Sa Iyo Drive, an initiative that honors SSU retirees for their years of dedication and service that have shaped SSU and the communities it serves. The drive will treat 30 retirees and 80 SSU personnel and staff to a pampering session that will include body massage, haircut, manicure, and pedicure services. Lucky winners of this drive will be announced today, March 6, at the SAGWAN official Facebook page.
SSU students, faculty, and staff ended yesterday’s kick-off celebration with a lively Zumba session at the SSU grounds. SAGWAN Director Charmaine R. Quiña announced the upcoming activities of the university for the month, including a tree planting activity on March 6-7, 2025, and the implementation of the Salamat Sa Iyo Drive on March 12, 2025, at the SSU Maceda Gymnasium.
