CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Samar State University’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Office, in partnership with the College of Education’s Social Studies Circle, DYSY 102.9 University Radio, and the Philippine Veterans Bank, led the Book Launching and Public Lecture of Filipino author and historian, Marie Silva Vallejo on March 22 (2024) at the SSU CAS Audio Visual Center, Catbalogan City, Philippines.
Vallejo authored the book titled, “Dauntless: First and Second Filipino Infantry Regiments,” a history book that explored the untold stories of Filipino soldiers who greatly contributed to the significant events that unfolded during the WWII.
Highlight of the event is Ms. Vallejo’s public lecture among SSU students, a ceremonial unveiling of the book, and her guesting at the SSU campus radio, DYSY 102.9.
Several excerpts from the book were shared during the public lecture including the important contributions of the Philippines and Samar Island to understanding the World War II. According to Vallejo, the initial inspiration for the book came from her late father who was a former soldier during the Second World War.
Concluding the event are her words of encouragement to SSU students to write their own stories of the WWII, an advocacy shared by the Office of the Arts & Cultural Heritage Programs.
