SSU Joins 18-Day Campaign to End Violence against Women

CATBALOGAN CITY─ In support to the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence against Women and Children, Samar State University (SSU) launched the event through a Parade of Hope around Catbalogan City on November 28 (23).

The City was painted orange as SSU personnel and students walked in orange shirts waving their orange stick flags.

The color orange is the icon of the campaign as the Philippine Commission on Women notified the public that said color represents hope and a future free from violence against women and girls.
“The activity aimed to strengthen the anti-VAW advocacy by enjoining audiences to the cause,” SSU’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) Director, Prof. Charmaine R. Quiña, said in a statement.

The launching concluded with an Opening Program and a Zumba Dance Workout.

Upcoming activities within the campaign period include Orientation on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction Management), SAYAWIT Competition, and Seminars on RA 9262 (The Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004) and Human Rights.
