UP-RI SAFER-U Project Team visits SSU to help enhance disaster resilience through LUDIP Review

 

CATBALOGAN CITY – The University of the Philippines-Resilience Institute (UPRI) – Safe and Resilient Universities (SAFER-U) Project Team visited Samar State University (SSU) to present the results of the Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP) review and risk assessment, and to gather feedback for the enhancement of the LUDIP on March 29 (23).

The team led by the SAFER-U Co-Project Leader Dr. Emmanuel Luna and UPRI researchers, namely the Cluster 3 Planning Team Focal Person – Ms. Shelley Anne J. Medina, Cluster 3 Project Staff Mr. Joevie Dela Cruz, NOAH Representatives Ms. Kayla Milcah Marasigan and Ms. Justine Anne Duka were welcomed by SSU.

During the meeting, Dr. Luna presented the review results of the SSU LUDIP.

“We are glad that SSU is one of the selected State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) that we are working with and we are helping in the enhancement of existing LUDIP by mainstreaming resilience consideration,” Dr. Luna stated.

The UPRI team also presented data, data validation, and data gathering methods, and discussed the ways forward with the SSU representatives. The event concluded with a hazard validation, where the team toured the vicinity of the university.

The visit concluded with SSU expressing its gratitude for the UPRI’s expertise and guidance and its commitment to keep the university more disaster-resilient.
