CATBALOGAN CITY─ As part of the celebration of the World Wildlife Day on March 3 (23) with the theme “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation”, Samar State University (SSU), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO), released a Hawksbill sea turtle that was saved from captivity eight years ago.
The Sea Turtle was rescued from Daram, Samar and was nursed back to health by the University. Its release symbolizes the importance of collaborative efforts in protecting and conserving wildlife and as a critically endangered species, the need to preserve natural habitat to balance the ecosystem.
Eastern Visayas Center for Crustacean Research and Development (EVCCRD) Director, Prof. Renato Diocton, expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped in the conservation and care of the sea creature.
“Let us protect and conserve our planet’s biodiversity by respecting and valuing all forms of life on earth,” Prof. Diocton stated.
Through this event, SSU and DENR-PENRO hope to inspire people to take action and contribute to the conservation of the Planet’s natural resources.
