CATBALOGAN CITY – The Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office (IPTBDO) of Samar State University (SSU) is in the move to retain SSU as a Top Patent Filer in the Philippines through a faculty training on Patent Mining and Patent Search on September 22-23 (21) at the SSU-CAS Academic Building.
Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, University President, said that the key towards development is innovation.
“Innovation opens opportunities for development. This event will inspire and tickle inventiveness of our faculty researchers and will serve as a platform where the creation of the minds will be protected,” she stated.
A patent search is a search of issued patents and published patent applications for inventions that might be considered important “prior art” references when applying for a patent while patent mining refers to the act of mining particular patents from a patent portfolio that match one’s business or technical requirements.
Dir. Noel A. Catibog, Director of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), expressed his felicitations to SSU-IPTBDO for continually equipping the faculty to advocate technology transfer.
Dr. Ronald L. Orale, Vice President for Research and Extension Services, and the IPTBDO Technical Experts Engr. Nikko Ardel Floretes, Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan, Engr. Jan Floro Bautista served as speakers of the two-day event on the essentials of patent mining and patent search: (1) Intellectual Property System and its Relevance to Academe, (2) Patent Information, (3) Classification of Patent Documents, and (4) Patent Search Tools, Strategies, Search Report Documentation.
38 participants joined the training-workshop where outputs were presented and given a learning assessment feedback.
