CATBALOGAN CITY – Christ Palmiano, a 4th year Bachelor of Science in Architecture, topped other Catbalogan City artists as he championed the Painting on Canvas Contest during the recently concluded Manaragat Festival Celebration on August 31 (21).

Palmiano’s winning piece shows the aerial perspective of the ocean and he named it as ‘Palawod’ which he explained as ‘to go far reaches to harvest ocean’s bounty.’

“I chose fisherman as my main subject because of their noble efforts in catching fish, the main root why we celebrate Manaragat Festival and give thanks to nature’s gifts. The painting depicts the daily life of a fisherman and his journey on the sea,” he explained.

Palawod was painted in a subjective perspective, embracing the expressionism.

The 35×25 acrylic on canvass depiction of Catbalogan City’s aquatic environment received a cash prize and a Certificate of Recognition.
