Solar roofs light up SSU

CATBALOGAN CITY- The widest rooftop solar power system and largest energy storage system were installed and switched on at Samar State University (SSU) College of Education and College of Industrial Technology buildings on July 30, 20 (21).

The solar roofs were designed using both an on-grid or grid tie solar power system and a hybrid system. On-grid system doesn’t need batteries, uses solar/micro inverters, and is connected to the public electricity grid while the hybrid system combines solar and battery storage which allows solar energy storage and once depleted, the grid is there as back up, thereby allowing the systems to generate power to meet the University’s energy requirements.

The SSU-Mercedes Campus was also given the fund for the installation of the hybrid solar panels.

Supplied and installed by RK Energy, a local solar company and power specialist in Region 8, SSU’s solar roofs are powered by QCELLS Solar Panels, DEYE inverters, and DYNESS Lithium Batteries.

On a social media post, RK Energy expressed saying, “We sincerely thank SSU for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this remarkable collaboration.”

This 62.3 M infrastructure milestone of the University is part of the retrofitting works for the three (3) colleges and one of the ways forward of SSU to future-proof itself from partial or complete power loss and other unprecedented challenges that may occur.
