CATBALOGAN CITY―Samar State University (SSU) was declared on May 11 (21) as one of the 1st Philippine Higher Education Internationalization Awardees with its Internationalization Program dubbed as Preparing the Foundation of an International University.
The Office of the International Affairs headed by Dr. Elmer A. Irene spearheaded the submission of SSU’s entry for this particular award.
Organized by the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the award is aimed at recognizing institutions who have innovative, creative, inclusive, and sustainable internationalization initiatives.
And in a ‘Message’ of the University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, during a zoom video shoot with UPOU-CHED IZN Award Team, she expressed saying, “This is a MILESTONE not only for the University but for the Province of Samar. That amid its socio-economic status and geographically challenged location, there looms a University that dreams of becoming one of the top 200 universities in Asia by 2040. This is a dream for every Samarnon.”
She also thanked CHED led by its Chairperson, Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera, CHED Commissioner, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, CHED Executive Director, Atty. Lily Freida C. Milla, CESO IV, and UPOU for the inspiration, opportunities, and provisions along internationalization initiatives and for ushering State Universities and Colleges like SSU to the global arena.
Dr. Cardoso shares the award to the hardworking and dedicated International Affairs Team of SSU as well as the members of the SSU Academic Community.
The awarding ceremony with the other 16 awardees will be webcasted live on May 17 (21) via the social media platforms in celebration of the 27th CHED Anniversary.
