CATBALOGAN CITY– Samar State University (SSU) is one of the 10 selected engineering state universities and colleges in the country to embark on a research-based extension service program branded as BRIDGES (Building Research and Innovation Development Goals for Engineering SUCs). The program is geared towards responding to the problems of the community and industry through active collaboration and innovation capital sharing among SUCs.
Spearheaded and funded by Batangas State University, SSU with Mariano Marcos State University, Isabela State University, President Ramon Magsaysay State University, Marinduque State College, Bicol University, Bohol Island State University, Negros Oriental State University, Jose Rizal Memorial State University, and University of Southeastern Philippines will share counterpart as partner institutions.
Specifically, SSU will engage as partner in the implementation of one of the projects under BRIDGES titled “Infrastructure-Soil Interaction and Land-Usage Assessment for New Development (ISLAND)”. This involves assessment of soil -structure interrelationship by determining the spatial, structural, and geotechnical characteristics and identifying key areas with high disaster susceptibility leading to a better recommendation for future site development.
The University President, Dr. Marilyn Cardoso, and the Director of SSU’s Center for Engineering, Science & Technology Innovation, Engr. Mirador Labrador, attended the orientation on February 11, 2021 via zoom for the details of the collaboration.
This research undertaking is expected to promote resources sharing and capacity building among SUCs, in particular, and better place the country in the Global Innovation Index (GII) and attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at large.
