Call for Submissions | 2nd International Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development

By Hanna Joyce Macawili

We are now accepting paper abstracts, poster, and synopsis entries for the first online-based International Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development (iPOVCON) to be held on October 21-23, 2020.

With the theme, “iPOVCON 2020: Living and Rising Above the Crisis,” Samar State University (SSU) will be staging the annual conference via Zoom. This year, with a wider international audience, the conference aims to spark meaningful discourses that will capture human resiliency and management capabilities before, during, and after crises through the following academic tracks:

  1. Human Health Crisis and Management;
  2. Resources, Technology, and Products for Crisis Management;
  3. Organization Preparedness and Response to Crisis; and
  4. Environmental Crisis and Management.

Paper Abstract Submission

How to Submit

  • Please submit your abstract via email at ipovcon@ssu.edu.ph.
  • The abstract shall be no more than 250 words. Please download the abstract template Please be mindful of the proper naming of the file. You are requested to follow the format as well as the content.
  • Please take note of the deadline for submission. Submitting it earlier will allow us to have ample time for review and other logistical requirements at our end.
  • Your abstract will undergo a peer review and you will be notified on August 28, 2020 if your abstract has been accepted. If accepted, you will be invited to register to the iPOVCON 2020. The author/presenter must register attendance to the conference not later than September 4, 2020.

Poster Submission

How to Submit

  • Please submit your poster via email at ipovcon@ssu.edu.ph.
  • The poster must have a screen ratio of 720p (1020px x 720px) or 16:9 (Widescreen). Please use the poster sample as guide.
  • Define the purpose of your paper. Knowing the purpose will help you decide what to include and not to include.
  • During the conference, make sure that your poster is catchy to attract the readers, more importantly, to attract the evaluator if winning the competition is a target.
  • The title is important and is a good way to sell your work. The title usually is the only thing the conference attendee sees before they reach your poster. Titles must be readable.
  • Many of the rules in writing a good paper also applies to posters.
  • Layout and Format are critical. Please make sure that your poster does not look like a full paper with so much content. Instead, try to select the most important aspects of your paper and emphasized it in your poster. Avoid being too textual and too visual. Find balance on what you present.
  • Content is important but keep it concise. Use appropriate text style and size. Use high-end good quality images or figure to illustrate complex sets of numbers or texts not to impress viewers with complex artistry. Have a clear and obvious set of conclusions, after the abstract; this is where the viewers’ eyes will wander.

Synopsis Submission

How to Submit

  • Please submit your synopsis via email at ipovcon@ssu.edu.ph.
  • The Synopsis must not be more than 10 lines. Please use the synopsis template Please be mindful of the proper naming of the file.
  • The synopsis must contain the short description of what happens in the audio-video material (e.g. short film / video documentary). The audio-video format of your paper is intended to make the take-home message of your study easier to digest.
