SSU Paranas Campus devises 200 free face masks for frontliners

Paranas, Samar – The “new heroes of this generation”, as dubbed by the Malacanang Palace, are the frontliners battling the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and they are in need of assistance, whatever it may be, to prevent the spread of the pandemic virus. Thus, Samar State University (SSU) Paranas Campus executed an initiative to make face masks for the frontliners of the municipality of Paranas.

Medical masks have been a necessity for healthcare workers since they are in close contact with (possible) infected people. They trap large sprays and droplets from coughing and sneezing. However, medical centers are experiencing a shortage of these protective gears and SSU would want to meet this need.

Paranas Campus Director, Dr. Lourdes Delmonte, together with the Head of Instruction, instructors, administrative staff, and Fashion and Design students, spent the morning of March 23 to finish making 200 pieces of face masks out of the materials they have.

“After the needlework, we will pack them up and disinfect each face mask. Then, we will go around the municipality to give these masks to our frontliners,” Mr. Denver Gadian said, SSU faculty.

They will be distributing the face masks to the frontliners of the municipality this afternoon.
