Bulig Catbaloganon: SSU faculty spearhead outreach for a cause

CATBALOGAN CITY – Two faculty of Samar State University (SSU) tied up with Mr. Rene Castino and the DYMS-MSFM radio station in creating an outreach program to raise donations for the daily wage earners in Catbalogan City who are experiencing economic crisis due to the pandemic virus.

Dr. Marife Mustacisa-Lacaba and Engr. Mariciris Mustacisa-Ediza, together with their sisters, Mary Joy Mustacisa-Capito and Mildred Mustacisa, created a Facebook group page tagged as Bulig Catbaloganon and they have received nearly 100,000 pesos cash donations with a total of 68,700 cash donations and more or less 30,000 donated grocery items in just three days.

The funds raised were voluntary contributions coming from engineers, bankers, businessmen, teachers, and SSU personnel who share the same advocacy with the fundraisers.

Some University officials also donated financially choosing to be mentioned anonymously.

They have distributed 180 packs of grocery items with each pack costing 550 pesos inclusive of food and sanitary items to pedicab drivers and vendors.

“We could have given more but we only have a limited time and we need to follow the LGU for safety purposes,” Dr. Lacaba said.

The team are grateful to the REACT Hamurawon, donors, and individuals who helped from the repacking to the distribution.

These faculty have proven to us that the culture of innovating, building, and serving are embedded in SSU’s personnel even during these trying times.
