Kabilin 2020 commences: Katbari hin Arte, Kultura, ngan Gugma

Catbalogan City- The SSU Museum and Archives Unit of Samar State University (SSU) kicked off the Kabilin 2020 with an opening program held at the SSU Gymnasium façade , February 26.

Carrying the theme “Katbari hin Arte, Kultura, ngan Gugma”, Kabilin 2020 showcased cultural performances during the opening program as well as a ribbon cutting ceremony for a three-day art exhibit. This is in consonance with the national celebration of Arts Month with a working theme “Ani ng Sining.”

The Opening Program was graced with a performance of Siday by Mr. Nemesio S. Baldesco, 2015 Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas Awardee and a Poet Laureate of Calbayog.

A Waray Love Song was also launched entitled “Nagmotor”, written by the Head of the SSU Museum and Archives, Mr. Jhonil C. Bajado.

The song was performed by Eldrian Jaba (as vocalist), Jemuel Mabanag (Music) with the participation of Meyneth Caber, Andrea Mendoza, France Cabarles III and Ramil Cabrigas.

Students from the College of Education and College of Engineering also showcased their talents during the event.

An Art Exhibit tagged as “Bayhon ngan Debuho” was also opened which featured two local artists of Catbalogan, Mr. Chevin Villaflor and Mr. June Omabe.

Villaflor is an alumnus of SSU High School and Omabe is a freshman taking up BSEd major in Social Studies at SSU.

KABILIN (heritage) is one of the programs initiated by the SSU Museum & Archives [the other one is KAAGI (history)] to promote Waraynon culture and heritage, through performances, lectures, and exhibits, upholding SSU’s commitment to cultural propagation and heritage conservation.
