CATBALOGAN – Samar State University (SSU) is one of the 16 cities in the Philippines joining the Impact Hackathon with an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record in the most number of participants in one venue.
Impact Hackathon is a simultaneous code fest across cities in the Philippines which aims to gather 10,000 innovators.
Along with Catbalogan City are the cities Iligan, Ilo-ilo, Davao, Manila, Bacolod, Palawan, Batangas, Legazpi, Vigan, Taguig, Cebu, Baguio, Pampanga, Cagayan, and Dumaguete.
The city’s hackathon started this morning with 47 coders in attendance from SSU, Eastern Visayas Regional Science High School (EVRSHS), City of Catbalogan, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) housed in the SSU Convention Center.
Inputs, Mechanics, and Criteria for Judging were directed to the participants of the different cities through live streaming straight from Araneta Center.
During the Opening Program, Dr.Marilyn D. Cardoso, University President, urged the coders to ‘create their own box’, instead of thinking out of the box.
“Creativity is unlimited, but only innovate for only what is good and what is moral,” she stated.
The winning team for Catbalogan’s Impact Hackathon will be receiving P15,000.00 (Student Category) and P20,000.00 (Professional Category). They will also be representing Catbalogan City in Manila’s 2050 Fest in November.
