BAYBAY CITY, Leyte – The official student publication of Samar State University (SSU), The Tradesman, received awards in the Regional Tertiary School Press Conference (RTSPC) 2018 held at Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte last September 19-22.
The publication’s incoming editor-in-chief, Kristine Harion Lacanaria, and junior layout artist, Jade Ian Rondina, both got the 4th place in sports reporting and desktop publishing contests, respectively.
The Tradesman also won in the group category of radio broadcasting, placing third for best news bulletin. Moreover, as the brainchild of sports editor Vevien Abarratigue, the team also achieved the best infomercial award.
Radio broadcasting was reintroduced this year since its last inclusion in 2013, when The Tradesman also won 3rd place for best radio broadcasting. This was discontinued due to lack of facilities.
Organized by the Regional Tertiary School Press Advisers Association, RTSPC is a mix of talks and contests in the various fields of journalism. It is an annual event gathering campus journalists from public and private HEIs in the region.
