Dr. Abocejo: Data Mining is plucking the diamond from the waste

“I couldn’t imagine how much data are available online,” Dr. Abocejo passionately exclaims.

Tacloban City – Dr. Ferdinand T. Abocejo, the resource speaker of the Seminar-Writeshop on Publishable Paper Development Using Data Mining Technique today, May 9, said that data mining is digging out useful data from several untapped files available online.

“Because in the world, there are several databases available online like the World Bank (data.worldbank.org/indicator). It is full of data untapped. Damo gud nga data, pero waray gud gagamita (There are numerous data but they are not used). We can use those data to do something good for the economy of the country and the betterment of the life of the people,” Dr. Abocejo emphasized as he explained what data mining is.

Dr. Abocejo mentors participants as they mine data online.

Attended by 23 researchers from Samar State University (SSU), Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Dr. Abocejo challenged each to come up with a paper after the three-day workshop and present the paper on July 24-26 during the International Conference on Methodological Advances in Research (ICMAR) 2018 to be spearheaded by the Visayas-Mindanao Consortium for Journal Publication, Inc. with the theme “Global Challenges through the Lens of Advanced Research Methods.”

“One of the reasons why we are here today is actually for the purpose of coming up with a paper after the three-day workshop and present these papers to the ICMAR,” Dr. Sherrie Ann Cananua-Labid further explained.

The seminar-writeshop will continue until May 11 at Hotel Consuelo, Tacloban City.
