PRE moves toward internationalization

“For us to be internationally recognized, we need to invest,” Dr. Orale said on his last note.

SSU, Catbalogan – Dr. Ronald Orale, VP for Planning, Research and Extension (PRE), stressed the goal for internalization during the 2018 PRE Planning Workshop spearheaded by his office today, January 22, 2018 at the CGS Multi-Purpose Hall.

Being part of the Samar State University (SSU) Research and Development Roadmap, internationalization, he said, is the only route that SSU should take.

Aligning plans with the R&D Roadmap, the different PRE offices presented their achievements and targets geared toward internalization.

For one, the Center for Engineering, Science and Technology Innovation (CESTI) will launch the Wearable Evasion Device funded by USAID STRIDE on February 21, 2018.  One of its staff, Marietta Albina, will be presenting her paper entitled “Socio-economic Profile of Oras Bay Coastal, Barangay Oras” at the 3rd International Conference on Coastal Zones and Oceanography 2018 in Singapore on May 18-19, 2018.

The Research Center for Culture and Social Issues (RCCSI) will co-host the International Conference on Methodological Advances in Research this July 2018 in Cebu City.

In addition to the plans, the offices presented their 2017 achievements.  Most notably, the Best Paper award won by RCSSI director, Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, for her paper “Online Sentiments on Climate Change: A Latent Dirichlet Algorithm” during the United Cities Local Group-Asia Pacific conference in April 2017.

Other offices include the University Publications, Gender and Development, Management Information System, Information and Communication Technology, Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Research and Development, and Planning exhibited their 2017 accomplishments and 2018 plans, all parallel to the Roadmap and gradually leading to internalization.
