SSU bags 2nd place in PASUC 8 radio drama

Tacloban City – Samar State University’s (SSU) “Marawi” won 2nd place in the radio drama competition of the PASUC 8 Culture and the Arts Festival last November 17.

The SSU Radio Drama Team composed of Vevien Abarratigue, Aldrin Cabahug, John Neil Panican, Janine Peñaflor, and Marlaii Abarratigue, with Prof. Joan J. Baclay as coach, gave life to the story “Marawi,” garnering a rating of 78.33 to rank second in the competition themed “PASUC@50: At the Forefront of the Global Dynamics of Public Higher Education.”

Held at Leyte Normal Univeristy’s Audio-Visual Center, SSU’s “Marawi” is a story within a story as it tells a story written by a student during class.

The main story is about a daughter who blames her mother for her life’s misery.  But her mother continues loving her, making her realize her mistake.  Then the Marawi Crisis begins.  During the clash, the mother dies and the daughter regrets not showing her love to the former.  The story then returns to reality, to the student writing it.

After many days of practice, the SSU Radio Drama Team (from 2nd L-R) with Coach Joan J. Baclay (2nd left) proudly accepts recognition for 2nd place.
