Through the initiative of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office (IPTBDO) headed by its Director, Dr. Vivian L. Moya, the business owners of Catbalogan City were able to attend free lectures that will help them create ‘business edge’ by knowing their IP rights.
University President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Vice President for Research and Extension Services Dr. Ronald L. Orale, and the Department of Trade Industry (DTI) Samar Province Director Engr. Meilou Macabare graced the event and emphasized the importance of “protecting their rights”.
“IP is similar to owning a land. If you will not register it, you will not be recognized as its owner,” Engr. Macabare stated.
The Basics of IP, IP in Business, Copyright and Trademark, Branding and Marketing, and Granting Procedures were tackled by Dr. Vivian L. Moya, Engr. Nikko Ardel P. Floretes, Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan, Engr. Jan Floro Bautista, and the Regional Intellectual Property Officer of IP Satellite Office VIII Mr. Romeo Jason L. Padulla, respectively.
The IPTBDO expects that through the seminar, the IP registration in the city would increase to protect the MSMEs.
