SSU concludes Undergrad Research Competition ‘21

CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) successfully conducted its annual Undergraduate Students Research Competition on June 17 (21), via Zoom and FB Live Stream.

The event celebrated the research enthusiasm of the students by giving them a platform to present their research papers under the evaluation of panel-experts from the University of Visayas (UV), Leyte Normal University (LNU), Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Northwest State University (NWSSU), Visayas State University (VSU), and SSU.

Dr. Ronald L. Orale, Vice President for Research and Extension Services, expressed that the event intends to increase the University’s productivity in research.

True enough, 14 presenters from the three major research centres: Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Research and Development (CFARRD), Research Center for Social and Culture Issues (RCCSI), and Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology Innovation (CESTI) shared the results of their research studies.

Ms. Gladys Colandog won the Best Poster Award with her study titled “Development and Evaluation of Wound Healing Ointment from Green Mussel (Perne viridis) RYSSUS”; Ms. Rodalina Godio and her team triumphed the Best Undergraduate Research Award for the Culture and Social Issues Research Category with their paper titled “Lived Experiences of Retrenched Employees during Pandemic”; and for the Aquatic and Marine Sciences and Related Studies Research Category, the Best Research Award was succeeded by Jessica Aying and her team with their research titled “Level of Local Ecological Knowledge on Blue Swimming Crab Fishery in Catbalogan City, Samar”.

And hailed as the Most Outstanding Research in the competition was the research paper titled “Catch Composition of Filter “Dyakus” in Sta. Margarita, Samar, Philippines” by Jake Boy Bacsal.

President Cardoso congratulated everybody for already being winners because of the fact that they have presented their researches.

“I encourage you to do more research, to innovate more, to discover more, for you to contribute more to humanity. Today, one thing is for sure, you are all winners in your own right. Winners in the sense that you have reached the spot, that you have accomplished something worthwhile. That will make you real winners,” she added.

The Undergraduate Research Competition was followed with the 2021 Students Research Competition for the Graduate category on the next day, June 18 (21).
