SSU-SWDS hosts PEP talk for graduating students

CATBALOGAN CITY –  The Student Welfare and Development Services (SWDS) through its Career and Placement Services spearheaded a webinar on Pre-Employment Preparation (PEP) Talk for Samar State University’s 4th year students on April 7 (21) via Zoom and FB Live.

The event aimed to equip the incoming college graduates with the basics of employment application and maximization of employment chances in the new normal.

“Organizations impose certain levels of difficulty on their hiring process to extract the cream among the applicants, primarily because of stiff competition in the labour market. Aside from this, the current situation adds to job hunting difficulty. We hope this seminar could help you with this,” stated Ms. Ma. Cristina Abalos, Head of the Career and Placement Services and Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Dr. Maria Isabel Lemen, Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, Ms. Jan Kris Mare Roferos, and Atty. Russel Pernites served as lecturers during the one-day event.

Topics discussed in the webinar include How to Prepare Yourself for the Job Market in the ‘New Normal’, Netiquette for Virtual Interviews, Creating an Impressive and Effective Application Letter and Resume, Available Employment Opportunities on a Pandemic, Strategies for Job Searching During a Pandemic, and Labor Laws and Related Topics.

The event reached more than 130 students and the FB Live video generated almost 200 comments.
