CATBALOGAN CITY – Engr. Raymark Cabrigas, a faculty from the College of Industrial Technology (CIT), i beyond the tunnel as workshop on Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS) commenced during the 3rd day of the weeklong In-House Training of Samar State University (SSU).
“I find it really interesting navigating the LMS. At first, I thought, it was complex especially that it is the first time I’m going to use it. As the workshop goes on, when Sir Zaldy already explained the step-by-step process, it became really simple. From the logging in to the embedding of resources and teaching materials, the utilization of the system is easier than the manual recording of student activities, well, at least for me,” he pointed out.
Engr. Cabrigas is just one of the faculty-participants who is beginning to grasp the relevance of the Moodle-based LMS which will be used as one of the modes of teaching for the SY 2020-2021 of Samar State University.
Many faculty were hesitant in using the LMS at first for more than half of them is comfortable using Google Classroom. However, as they were more exposed to its features, the more it becomes manageable.
“If I were to compare its features to Google Classroom, there are similarities between the two, and I prefer using Moodle now because it’s more user-friendly,” Engr. Cabrigas stated.
ICT Director Zaldy Jabiñar demonstrated the use of LMS virtually via Zoom as the faculty executed the steps on their own virtual classroom.
Basic Moodle functionality includes features that can be used for learning in any learning type such as discussion forums, chat rooms, wikis, quizzes, assignments, and gamification.
Moodle is the most popular open source LMS with 78+ million users all over the world and SSU will be adapting this as a mobile application and website.
“SSU is the first among the member-SUCs in the EVHEIFLMS Consortium to have a downloadable mobile application. We already have downloaded almost all the courses in the system. The only thing left to do is to engage the faculty in using the Moodle,” Director Jabinar stated.
As said by the University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, July 13 (20), we are now ready for the opening of classes this August using the Moodle-based LMS.
