CATBALOGAN CITY – With the increasing number of confirmed cases in Samar, Samar State University (SSU) intensifies its information dissemination efforts to curb the infection rate of the pandemic. SSU started the distribution of leaflets with information about COVID-19 in Barangay Guindapunan, Catbalogan City on April 28, Tuesday, in a bid to reach residents who do not use the internet and social media.
Barangay health workers Beatrice Albos and Jenetha Morena received 900 pieces of IEC materials to be distributed to the households of the said barangay. They also received banana cakes for frontliners.
The double-sided leaflets are packed with list of symptoms of the virus, tips on how to decrease vulnerability from COVID-19 infection, ways to protect one’s self and others, steps on making alternative disinfectants, and other important reminders presented in the local dialect Waray.
SSU credits the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the University of the Philippines Runggiyan for the original idea of these leaflets.
The University will be giving these leaflets to all the barangays in Catbalogan City over the coming days.
